A caching issue affecting gas price retrieval in the Hiero JSON-RPC Relay was identified as the root cause of recent INSUFFICIENT_TX_FEE transaction failures. The issue occurred when the relay reused stale cached gas price values that no longer reflected the latest HBAR/USD exchange rate, leading to underpriced transactions being rejected by the Hedera network.

A fix has been implemented and released in version 0.72.1 to ensure that the most recent gas price is fetched and applied at transaction submission time. This update eliminates reliance on outdated cache data while maintaining performance safeguards. The hotfix is stable, safe, and has been deployed to testnet and mainnet.
